The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District is dedicated to permanently protecting the county’s agricultural, natural, and scenic lands for future generations. Following the devastating 2017 Sonoma County fires, the district sought a renewed visual identity that would reflect the community’s resilience, unity, and deep respect for the land. The challenge was to design a brand system that honored Sonoma County’s agricultural heritage while inspiring hope and stewardship for the future.
In partnership with the Idea Cooperative, a creative agency based in Sonoma County, I was contracted to lead the design and development of a new brand identity system for the district. The goal was to craft a visual language that was both timeless and deeply rooted in place — evoking the rolling vineyards, open fields, and rugged natural beauty that define the region.
The resulting identity suite combined modern clarity with organic warmth, symbolizing both preservation and progress. This refreshed brand gave the organization a stronger public presence, helping it communicate its mission and engage more effectively with the local community during a period of recovery and renewal.
