The Challenge

Walmart, the world’s largest private employer and a perennial leader atop the Fortune 500, sought to strengthen its internal brand and employee experience for its massive global workforce. The challenge was to create consistent, engaging, and meaningful communications that not only informed associates about their benefits and programs but also inspired pride and connection across hundreds of thousands of employees worldwide.

The Approach

As a senior-level designer with Liquid Agency in Portland, I was part of the dedicated Walmart creative team responsible for the company’s year-round internal communications and cultural initiatives. Collaborating across time zones with teams in Bentonville, Arkansas, we produced a wide range of materials — from employee experience guides and benefit brochures to internal campaigns, posters, digital assets, and print collateral — all designed to elevate understanding, engagement, and morale within the Walmart community.

What made this project especially meaningful was a personal connection: my great-aunt and uncle went to high school with Sam Walton in Columbia, Missouri. Decades later, my role on the Walmart account felt like a full-circle moment — contributing to the evolution of a brand that began with Sam’s humble vision to make life better for everyday people. Through thoughtful design and storytelling, our team helped reinforce Walmart’s culture and elevate the experience for its millions of associates around the world.
